A garage door spring installation is none but a dangerous task.
Hence, one should be careful in doing it.
Moreover, as homeowners, we should only entrust it to a garage door installation in San Antonio.
However, if you are curious as to how they do it, here are some steps that are taken in terms of garage door spring installation:
Step 1: Close the garage door.
Closing the garage door is necessary so that the spring is given easy access.
To be ready for this endeavor, make sure first that all the materials that you need are accessible.
Ensure that the opener of the door is also disconnected from the power and the door itself.
Then, keep the door in the open position by placing a c-clamp on the track of the garage door, which is positioned at the top of the garage door roller.
You can locate this roller at the rear of each side of the door.
Step 2: Remove the old springs.
Obtain a wrench and then loosen the two sets of screws that are found on the winding cone.
After that, you have to place the winding bar into the hole that is at the bottom of the cone.
Make sure that you have a strong grip on the winding bar as well.
Afterward, you should be able to ascertain the expansion of the spring while the screws loosen.
In order to have the springs removed, simply unwind them by means of the winding bars.
Once that has been done, position the winding bar into a new hole, which is positioned on the cone.
After the springs of the garage door have been unwinded without any more tension, simply utilize a wrench to detach the bolts.
These bolts connect the spring with the center bracket.
Then, dislodge the screws that are located on the drums of the cable by means of the wrench.
After they have been dislodged, remove the nuts and then the bolts and then detach the cables along with the drums from where they were attached.
Step 3: Install the springs.
Make sure that you inspect the garage door components first if they have been worn out before attempting to install the springs.
For instance, ensure that the bearings are moving fluidly.
If not, get a silicone spray and then use it as a lubricant.
However, if this step does not work, you can buy some new plates for the bearings along with your new springs.
When you begin installing the springs, make sure, to begin with, the left one.
Place the springs on the shaft, just like how you detached the old springs.
The door’s cable drum should be positioned on the other side of the garage door, but only if the door needs two springs to be installed.
After installing the cable drums, go directly to the step of placing the torsion shaft on the plates.
Then, fasten the stationary cones to the plate by utilizing the nuts and the bolts that were removed earlier.
Make sure that a vice-grip is placed on the torsion shaft so it stays in place.
After that, wind the cable around its drum then tighten it with screws.
Repeat the same step for the other cable drums and leave the vice grip secured.
The cables must be secured with the same amount of tension in them.
Then, place some tension on the springs by making use of your winding bars.
Furthermore, you have to make sure that the proper tension is placed and that the screws are fastened properly on the cones.
